Job Title: Senior Investment Accountant

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Investment Accountant to join a dynamic team. The Senior Investment Accountant will play a critical role in managing and reporting investment activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investment Accounting: Manage the accounting for investment portfolios, including securities, derivatives, and alternative investments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze investment-related financial statements, schedules, and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory filings.
- Reconciliation and Analysis: Conduct regular reconciliations of investment transactions, positions, and income, investigating and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner. Perform in-depth analysis of investment performance and variances.
- Risk Management: Monitor investment risks and exposures, identifying potential issues and recommending appropriate actions to mitigate risk and enhance portfolio performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, ensuring compliance in all investment accounting and reporting activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including investment management, finance, and actuarial departments, to support financial planning, forecasting, and investment strategy development.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance investment accounting processes, implementing best practices and automation tools to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Audit Support: Assist in the coordination of internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation, explanations, and support to auditors as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CFA designation preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in investment accounting within the insurance or financial services industry, with a focus on life insurance and annuities.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and statutory accounting principles, as well as regulatory requirements applicable to investment accounting for insurance companies.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and financial accounting software; experience with investment management systems (e.g., Bloomberg, Clearwater) is a plus.
Location: This position is located at the Raleigh/Durham area with a Hyrbid office schedule.
