Controller/Head, Statutory Financial Reporting - Life Insurance

A growing U.S.-based life (re)insurance company is seeking a Controller/Head of Statutory Financial Reporting. This is a high-impact, hands-on role within an entrepreneurial, results-driven organization focused on acquiring and managing in-force life insurance portfolios.

The position will lead statutory financial reporting and controllership functions across multiple U.S. domiciled insurance entities. This is an excellent opportunity for a technical and operationally focused accounting professional to help shape a dynamic and fast-evolving finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the statutory close and filing process for multiple U.S. insurance entities, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and compliance

  • Manage preparation and review of Blue Book reporting, related schedules (e.g., B and BA), and interactions with regulatory bodies

  • Oversee preparation of statutory financial statements, including coordination of annual audits and external reporting

  • Own general ledger and financial system processes

  • Partner with actuarial, investments, and operations to analyze financial results and prepare management reporting

  • Support reinsurance accounting and rating agency deliverables

  • Maintain strong internal control practices, including SOX compliance

  • Contribute to due diligence efforts and onboarding of acquired portfolios

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a small team of finance professionals

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and operational rigor

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in life insurance financial reporting and accounting

  • Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements for U.S. life insurers

  • Experience managing Blue Book reporting

  • CPA highly desired but not essential

  • Solid communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally

  • Proven leadership, team management, and project execution capabilities

  • Ability to operate in a lean, dynamic, and entrepreneurial environment

  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
