Financial Accountant - Bermuda Class 3 Re/Insurer
A Bermuda-based Class 3 re/insurance company is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated professional to join the finance team as a Financial Accountant. This role will be responsible for supporting the company's accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly management accounts in accordance with US GAAP, including variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Support the preparation of annual audited financial statements under US GAAP.
- Perform core accounting functions such as cash management, accounts payable, general ledger maintenance, and period-end journal entries and reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts, including financial modeling in collaboration with risk and capital teams.
- Help prepare annual Bermuda regulatory filings and ensure compliance with local insurance laws and regulations.
- Ensure proper application of accounting policies and procedures and the accuracy of underwriting-related transactions.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of internal controls and financial reporting processes.
- Support finance system enhancements and automation efforts with a focus on data accuracy and process integrity.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and third-party service providers.
- Assist in preparing internal presentations, including board materials and regulatory submissions.
- Collaborate closely with the Bermuda-based CFO, affiliated companies, and service providers on various finance-related deliverables.
- Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Professional accounting qualification (CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent) is required.
- Minimum 2 years of post-qualified experience in re/insurance or in audit with a focus on re/insurance clients.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and familiarity with Bermuda regulatory frameworks.
- Working knowledge of insurance and investment accounting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large or complex datasets.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to process improvements and system implementations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing priorities.
