Overview

An Epic Program Manager with expertise in digital healthcare is a pivotal role responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and optimization of Epic Systems within a healthcare organization. This professional bridges the gap between clinical needs and technical solutions, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of Epic's suite of electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare IT systems.



Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Planning and Implementation

    • Lead the end-to-end implementation of Epic Systems, from initial planning through go-live and optimization phases.
    • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budget management.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders to define project goals, scope, and deliverables.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement

    • Act as the primary liaison between clinical staff, IT teams, and executive leadership.
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration among diverse teams to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
    • Conduct regular meetings and updates with stakeholders to report on project progress and address any issues.
  3. Technical Expertise and Integration

    • Oversee the configuration, customization, and integration of Epic modules (e.g., Ambulatory, Inpatient, Revenue Cycle, MyChart).
    • Ensure interoperability with other healthcare IT systems and external data sources.
    • Stay current with Epic's latest features and updates, and implement them to enhance system functionality.
  4. Quality Assurance and Optimization

    • Develop and enforce best practices for system usage and data management.
    • Conduct thorough testing and validation of system functionalities to ensure reliability and efficiency.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and system optimization, leveraging analytics and user feedback.
  5. Training and Support

    • Design and deliver training programs for end-users to maximize system adoption and proficiency.
    • Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for system issues.
    • Develop comprehensive documentation and user guides.


Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education and Certification

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Health Informatics, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field.
    • Certification in Epic modules (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory, Inpatient, or Revenue Cycle) is highly preferred.
  • Experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing large-scale Epic implementations in a healthcare setting.
    • Proven track record in project management, with PMP or similar certification preferred.
    • Experience in digital healthcare transformation and EHR optimization.
    • Candidates with Agile and/or regenerative development experience are highly preferred.

  • Technical Skills

    • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or equivalent preferred, plus 4 years experience in health care information technology including project management, personnel management, and application production support. Combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Minimum of 5 years of experience in people management, preferably in a healthcare or technology-related environment.
      • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve their goals.
      • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
